ARTISTIC RESEARCH

I was very lucky to find my true passion right at the beginning of my career, during my formative years. Theatre masks taught me that what is hidden reveals itself. After experimenting with the more formal masks, such as the ones from Comedia Dell’Arte, I found my truest love in the world´s tiniest mask (the red nose). The endless possibilities such a small red dot on the tip of the nose brings to the interpreter as well as how this practice can help professionals in a wide range of fields are a subject of tireless research on my part up until this day.

CLOWN

I fell much more in love with the philosophy underneath the mask than with the construction of a character per se:  it is the green light to embrace the wholeness of who we are and use the our so-called personal flaws (those personality traits society will tell you to hide under the rug) to make people laugh. In the clown philosophy is imbued not only my professional beliefs, but my personal beliefs as well. Be who you are. Live in the moment. Don’t morally judge yourself or others. Celebrate who you are. Love without fears. Embrace peculiarity. Value your shadow as much as your light. Do not fear. Believe it. Because if you believe it, the audience believes it too.

DEPOIMENTO PESSOAL

PERSONAL TESTIMONY

The personal testimony is a technique used by several artists in different artistic fields to build a true and believable character. My first contact with this technique was through Bete Dorgam, still at acting school, and later on, with her own master, Cristiane Paoli-Quito. Using one’s own story and taking it to the audience in an interesting way demands courage, one´s soul must be available and, above all else, the willingness to share one´s humanity. In my research as a performer as well as a teacher and director, this is the technique that leads my working process. We’re all unique and, at the same time, we are all build from the same matter. Therefore, if I speak my truth on the stage, it resonates with the audience’s truth, creating a bond of trust and credibility that will expand the meaning of the artistic experience.
